As per our recent conversations with Ron the trail supervisor of Coal Creek. He wants us to be sure that we remember that we need to stay off of the gas lines which are found all around the park and the trails we often ride. There are reported to be exposed gas lines on trails 15, 21, 22, 36, and some others at Windrock. The land managers are working to cover the lines back up but until then, if you see anyone on one of the lines get them off of it! We all need to be proactive here to ensure we prevent any possibilities of an incident.
Welcome to East Tennessee Four Wheel Drive!

A couple of club members met with Brent and Roy from Windrock Offroad to scout new trails and found some good locations. Weather permitting we will be riding Monday the 26th to layout a new trail off of trail 39. This is going to be a day to mark the proposed trail and if approved, hopefully start the clearing in January. Windrock land management stated that they would like to see 200 miles of additional (4x4) trails cut in the near future, volunteers will be needed to make this happen! This is our chance to get out there and have an opinion as to how Windrock OHV Park looks like and grows.
Progresss will be underway this weekend again on some new trail blazing. There will be several clubs along with ET4WD club members meeting in the parking lot at 9am. Ron will be riding up to the new trail with one of us for the approval walk!
After meeting with Ron from Coal Creek, we started cutting into the new trail at around 11am from opposite directions. By 3pm that day we met together near the middle, and rode the new trail for the first time. The trees and rocks were not giving up easily though, and there were a few vehicle incidents. Widow Maker takes a much more personal meaning now. Next step is to to label our new trail. It will be called the "Cable Trail" because it runs almost the same path as the old winch cables from the coal mine operation. Ron said the new trail will likely be numbered 40-A. Only after we rode it for the first time did we feel it necessary to title the rock garden section "The Rose Garden". You can ask Jeremy Rose what that's all about.
By making the donation that day your Brimstone permit is waived. And as far as riding the Laco ride that again is going to have to change. I talked to the TWRA OHV manager and just like the Mike Norman Memorial ride, it is closed for hunters because that is opening day of rifle season. So we will be taking a differnt route. Also, we have a club called the TN MTN Junkies that are coming and want to ride some obstacles. Their may be two rides again so that the big vehicles can go on the harder stuff.
Ron, the Trail Maintenance Supervisor at Windrock will be at Windrock at 9am to ride with someone to talk about the trail system and to make suggestions to Brent for new trails, it would be a chance for our people to maybe make a new trail.
If anyone can get involved let's try to coordinate together so that we don't miss out on the opportunity.
